Would not have liked to go down that. Awesome falls. Pretty wet and slippery. Glad we had our trekking poles. Falls and waterways are delightful-perfect hike for those a tad fit!! We did the loop A trail.
Falls are beautiful. Make sure to get a picture at the top of the stairs on the right side. Pretty busy trail even on a weekday. Beautiful shady hike, falls are beautiful and easier to go clockwise so that you go up multiple series of steps on the return rather than down.
At a slow pace with a 20 minute stop at the falls this took us almost exactly 2 hours. This trail was decent given the weather conditons prior to this past weekend. I did this trail on Oct. It was a bit rocky, a bit slippery, and there are streams that will wet up your footwear.
Make sure you have appropriate footwear for this hike. Out of the waterfalls I saw on this trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains I've seen 5 , this is my favorite waterfall. If you are strapped for time here, make sure you hike this one. I did see older folks on this hike, so it is manageable. I can't stress enough to wear the proper footwear. Crabtree Falls Trail moderate Length 4. The trail has beautiful views all along the way and has many false summits. Much of it is uphill. If you are going during hunting season wear a bright color, there are many bear hunters in the area. There is also seasonal restrooms, over 80 picnic tables, and drinking water at the trailhead. Crabtree Falls is at Milepost Turn into the northernmost entrance to the Crabtree Falls Recreation Area and bear right into the campground.
